sorry, this is not my best work, as I have been up all night and it is 5:30 in the morning for me, but in light of another diary, that is full of false claims, I had to get this off my chest.
What do Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Franklin D. Roosevelt all have in common, and don’t have in common with Bernie,?
They all accepted campaign contributions from Wall Street tycoons.
Yes it is TRUE, Franklin D. Roosevelt took donations from Wall Street tycoons.
FDR also was quite wealthy and ran in elite circles, and was a firm supporter of Free Trade, the very things that Bernie berated Hillary over.
FDR was also a big believer in National Security, something that Bernie was not as interested in.
Bernie would have hated FDR, and FDR would not have been pure enough for Bernie.
So, can people please STOP comparing Bernie to FDR?
FDR was an anomaly, he was there at the right time, in the right place to make the New Deal happen, that is NOT going to happen again, in our lifetime, that is because the Republicans of today, are NOT the same as the Republicans of our past. Want an example of WHY I believe this? Just look at the Gun Control bills that Democrats tried to pass, and well over 70% of Americans supported.. and the Republicans didn’t care what the people wanted, and voted against it.
This person makes the point better than I am able to.
He was an absolute anomaly, as this man points out:
I happen to think FDR was a pretty good president, but his record has as much if not more to do with the singular set of circumstances under which he came to office than with his own brilliance. Which is to say, his presidency wasn’t just an anomaly—it was a one-in-a-million aberration, and in many ways should be seen as a negative rather than positive example. Because that’s not how political change works in a democracy—even one as flawed as our own. It’s how real revolutions work, when you kill people and impose your will on them at the business end of a gun. But in a democracy you have to make space for a plurality of visions, including those with which you vehemently disagree.
so, anyway, please stop comparing Bernie to FDR, the Pope and Jesus… it is getting old, Bernie is not your savior, he is an average politician.
While we are at it, can we please stop calling the Democrats, Neoliberal’s and Corporatists. and 3rd Way Democrats. Hillary was NONE of the above, anymore than FDR was, and NO, I am not comparing Hillary to FDR.
There is not one policy coming from Democrats, that I have seen that would be in support of any of the conservative ideals.
Conservatives ie Neoliberal’s aka Neoconservatives.
BOTH Neoliberal in Europe and Neoconservative in the USA support: Free Market, Privatization, Lower Taxes, Less Government Spending, Less Social Welfare Spending, Deregulation, etc.. etc… etc.
Those are Republicans Right Wing Conservative policies, that have nothing to do with Left Wing Democrats in the USA.
